    These beads are from my grandmother. My mom put them on a string and put the brass clasp on and gave them to me a few years ago. To the best of my knowledge, the beads were made in the 1920's or 30's. I believe they are made to imitate cinnabar.

      idcloisonne, I think your are correct: the beads are most likely Bohemian. They come from a small factory producing decorative items to embellish lamps, curtains, clothing... made of rhinestones, sequins, glass beads, and other materials. The place closed around WWII (I am not sure about the exact time) and was located less than 100 meters from the border with Czechoslovakia. Nowadays you can just walk over the bridge and cross freely from Germany into Czechoslovakia. So I believe that based on the proximity it is very likely that most of the supplies of beads came from there.
