When I was a little girl, every time I stayed overnight at great grandma's house, I would stare at this on the dresser next to me until I drifted off to sleep. I always thought it was a clock. When my great grandma died, I asked for this. Everyone laughed at me, thought I was crazy asking for an empty perfume bottle...that was the first I knew what it really was. One of my aunts told me my great grandpa had given it to grandma when they were courting and that it had come from France during WW1. I don't know if that is true, what I do know is when I take off the lid I can still detect a slight flowery scent. It is 5 1/2" tall from the base to the top of the dome, and nearly 3" wide through the base. The top of the perfume bottle is a gold-tone metal screw lid, and the filigree overlay on the bottle is a dark metal but very delicate. The filigree holds the bottle in place to the base and is secured to the base with 4 tiny nuts (on the underside of the base). The clock face is merely paper, not sure what the base is, may be wood. Grandma died more than 30 years ago, yet each time I touch it I am flooded with wonderful memories.
Love the cloche as well !
