    (586 items)

Two vases from Sanyu with slight differences in style and colour but probably both from the 1960s or 70s.

The amber and green vase is very similar to one I have posted before but is smaller by about 3cm (1.5in), showing variations that occur when items are hand made.

The blue and green vase appears to have been made in a similar mould but finished quite differently, with no pinching and fluting of the clear ribs and less work on the top rim.
I find it's colours so appealing!
    Height 23cm (9in)

Pretty sure I saw a purple one very similar to these yesterday. It was three sided with a more point top but the same clear over color. Couldn't make up my mind if it was Japanese or Italian. The bottom was polished flat and they wanted eight bucks for it which I thought was a bit expensive. I think they were leaning more towards Murano by the price. I bet it was Kamei though...see I do pay attention most of the time..lol :)

Excellent student. Mike pays attention is class and is always polite and respectful.
He has excelled in Japanes glass and Asian ceramic studies and is developing his jewellery knowledge well.
He displays a very wide knowledge of eclectica, although can be very distracted at times when prices are low.

As a teacher I don't excel in typing. Sorry for the typos and thanks Mike!

Thanks Karen :)....You're the first teacher that didn't tell me... "Mike is very bright he just needs to apply himself more."...lol. I always hated that canned phrase !

Colour combinations and lobed feet similar to Chribska of the same period.

Peggy you are right (of course) and these vases are often called Czech or Murano.
      Thanks.

I dont know how you tell the difference Karen without a sticker.
Even Walther glass made similar styles and tones, colours etc.
      I give up! lol
Still cant find what I wanted to for you!Still looking. :)

Hey Anne! Hope it's going a bit better for you.
I've looked and handled so much Japanese glass this year I'm getting OK at the differences. I still get confused at times, not so much between countries but more between the Japanese makers.
Like all glass industries there was a fair bit of movement of artists between factories.

      Thinking of you!

Karen, I think I saw a Sanyu vase today, actually I was pretty sure after seeing all your vases on here, and yep, came home and checked your page, and the vase is like the one here that's blue and green except more bulbous at the bottom as I recall. The bottom looks matte like that with a ground pontil. Colors were different, I think pink and green. I didn't buy it! Was stunning, but cost more than my usual limit. :(

Well spotted then Katherine! The problem with price is that most think them Murano and charge accordingly. I'm surprised there is not more available over there - Australia was a big market for Japan though , more so than Italy I think.
Hopefully you will come across one soon (with a label even) that's in the price range :)))

Oz may see them, we never do in the US, that I know of. I'm still thinking on whether I should go back for it. :/

Well when I held that piece of glass in my hands, I fell in love. Was all I could do to restrain myself from buying it! :)
