I've a pair of matching vases, approx 18cm high. They were bought from a glass dealer who attributed them to Loetz, but I think the consensus now is that they're probably not - more likely Kralik/Rindskopf. They have silver, hallmarked top bands that are very thin and marks are just about indistinguishable. There are no other markings. Colour is blue/iridescent purple. I haven't managed to find an image of a similar pattern.

Photos of the vases, base and hallmarks (FWIW) are attached.

Can anyone tell me more about the pair - eg manufacturer, pattern and approximate date of manufacture?

.....from a novice who would like to collect more (if only he knew more about what to buy/avoid :)

If you compare the vase and the silver hallmark to my Henry Perkins and Sons posts, you will see similarities. I can just about make out an H.

I agree with Kralik or Rindskopf, with a lean towards the former (but note my last "lean" was wrong!).

The size should be 18.5cm? Nice colour as well. There are many knowledgable people on here and glassmessages.com - these sites and sites like Loetz.com, Loetz and glass, kralik-glass.com are invaluable and contain links and references.

I write as someone a year or two ahead - many people on here have been collecting for decades.

Hi Inky, Your photos suggest the match is identical :) - same shape, pattern, silver banding and glass colour/iradescence. Tx so much.

Are your hallmarks legible - if so I'd be pleased to know what they are - to help confirm, or otherwise, IanBrighton's suggestion that the silversmith was Henry Perkins and Sons.

      Ian, size is 18cm.

I agree with inky - the blue color is definitely typical of Kralik - not a color that Rindskopf used, I believe. What a gorgeous pair - love them! :)

In discussing these vases with a friend, he pointed out that the martele pattern on these vases is a bit different from the usually tighter and more regular pattern seen on Kralik martele vases. Some of the martele areas on this pair are quite large, so the overall pattern is quite a bit more uneven than is usually seen in Kralik pieces. I thought he had a good point, and just wanted to mention this and the possibility of another maker besides Kralik being involved.

Michelle - tx for pursuing :)

The only definite seems to be that the vase photos of Inky's and mine are pretty much identical. I've so far seen forum threads on other sites describe patterns like these as 'brain', 'maze' and 'martele'. All are a bit similar but each, in the eyes of a novice like me, seem to be materially different from the photos associated with the threads.
