a friend gave this to me a few years ago and i never thought much of it. it reminds me too much of the local mediocre Chinese restaurant decor. but it's kind of cool, and i am grateful for the thought behind it! now, i think it's pretty interesting - even if it does remind me of a mediocre Chinese restaurant! i'd love to find out more about it.

i'm not sure what it's made of - laquer maybe? but it does have a lot of mother-of-pearl inlay in it.

i just added 4 more pics of this. it's nicer than i thought. i think it's some kind of laquer, right? it is somewhat 3-dimensional w/ some items projecting out a little bit - mainly the mother-of-pearl inlay.

the last pic shows the black back of the panels with a black mark which has been written on each one. it looks like an odd '2', but i think it is a kanji.

does anyone recognize the letter/symbol on the back?
