I acquired this desk clock at an antique shop. It came with pictures of the Manischewitz Family. The face of the clock is hand painted and is marked Udall & Ballou on the face and was made in France. The frame is silver with black and white enamel. The glass is crystal. The period is around early 1900's. The back has a stand and I believe it is brass. It has the initials J.U.M. (Jacob U. Manischewitz), the son of Rabbi Dov Behr Manischewitz 1857-1914. M.V.M. (Max Manischewitz), brother of Jacob. Max gave the clock to Jacob. I wish to acquire some details about the clock. It is in excellent condition and in working order. It is also written on the face "8 days". Thanks.

Sorry, but I can't see where is the mystery...
You were very lucky to get the family provenance, with named and date!
      A quick Google search give:
1888 founded in New York was one of the finest New York jewellers of the early 20th Century. In its advertisements, they mentioned locations in Palm Beach, Florida; on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island; and at rue Lafayette, Paris. The company also maintained a location on Fifth Avenue in New York.
1920s they had become one of the most prosperous firms of the period

1939 For the World’s Fair in New York, they contributed jewellery which was abstract in design and architectural in effect. They were one of the few manufacturing jewellers identified with the famous “flower style” of the 1930s
1940s During World War II, the firm closed due to the difficult financial situation

I know all about Udall & Ballou. I am more interested in details about the clock itself, not Udall & Ballou.
