This bear measures approx. 20-22inches tall in a seated position. The Steiff ear tag reads 2677/40, which with some research is registered to the Wild Boar Steiff. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this is a fake? The eyes and nose are, I think, plastic and the bear isn't stuffed like the usual Steiffs I've seen. Any info would be great! There are no other tags other than the ear tag in the left ear.
Normally when steiff use yellow hang tag the number was hand wrote in not stamped ? I can not see button clear . IF he is a steiff he would date after 70's .
The yellow tag has the Original Steiff in the cursive print, the number, and Made in Germany in print. The button part has the same cursive-style Steiff. When I researched the number on the tag, I found it registered to a wild boar Steiff (the site where I found this did not include a photo of the wild boar.) All opinions are welcome and appreciated! I would love to know if anyone has ever seen this bear as a Steiff. I am doubting it's authenticity because it doesn't appear on collector sites and because of the tag number.
It is not a wild Boar it is a Bear :) I will get out my books tonight . Steiff used many styles of buttons through the years .
I can see why I am confused by button they are 2 different ones posted . Which one is on yours ?
On another website, 2677/40 is registered to a Dalle Wild Boar Steiff. The photo I posted showing the Steiff tag is the tag currently on the BEAR. I took a photo of the same tag in different angles so it could be seen. I am just looking to see if anyone thinks this tag was taken off a real Steiff and put on a non-Steiff bear, OR if the bear appears to be Steiff.
I contacted someone from Steiff and they regretfully said it is indeed a faux Steiff. The ear tag is registered to a Boar, so whomever sold me the bear either got it that way or took the tag from a boar and attached it to this bear. Thank you to everyone who looked at this and Manikin for attempting to look in the books. I posted here just in case I didn't get a response, but I have. Not the news I was hoping for, but I'm glad we at least know it's not authentic.
It was not quality of a stieff either :-(
I thought so, too. Always trust your gut instinct and be careful when shopping online! :)
