I recently acquired this lidded wooden bowl/box that belonged to my great-grandmother. She was born in 1854 in Holstein, Germany and died in 1942 at the age of 88 in Minnesota where she lived most of her life . The inside circumference of the bowl/box is 7 inches; its depth 3 inches. The roses, I believe, are not hand-painted, but most likely are decals. I would love to know the approximate age and most likely usage back in the day. The condition of the wood and decals is remarkable and no doubt appreciatively cared for through the years. I am wondering if this is a "dresser box" used to store hankies. Or perhaps a collar box? Or something else entirely?
