Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819 - 1861 in England known as: His Royal Highness The Prince Consort) was the husband of King Victoria (1819-1901) and died far to young at the age of 42 years. He left his wife and their nine children behind in great sorrow.
Queen Victoria would spend the rest of her life wear mourning black also with black jewelry. On the English Court mourning had also to be carried. Queen Victoria left make Whitby mourning jet for her own in the English town of Whitby making this place became famous. All visitors to the English court were required also to come in black and of course with the accompanying jewelry. Jet is a type of Brown coal a follised wood from ancient trees as coal but much harder. These threes flourished in the Jurassic period - about 180 million years ago. The used jewelry jet comes from mines or washed up on the beach in Whitby. The nickname of jet is "The black gold".
One of this kind of jewelry you can see here.
This pendant is made of jet containing a hand painted porcelain portrait of a little boy and hangs on a long chain, however, the beads are beads of black glass.
Pendant is 2.5 by 2.9 cm. The necklace is in total about 86 cm long.
It is amazing to look at this pendant and realize it was made by hand with simple tools. What workmanship!

i really meant that as a compliment, not a criticism. i know how difficult it can be writing in a language which is not your first language.
    13. Agram.m Agram.m, 10 years ago
ho2cultcha, you're right because in my first report knocked the linguistic not quite making it unclear. I have improved it here and there and now it's more clear I think. I take do not blame you at all and you're right, in a foreign language you can not communicate as clearly as in your native language.
