I pulled together most of my trunks that are displayed in my basement (half of them) for a shot of my partial collection. I have as many upstairs. Fun to see them all together!

Very nice collection! I really love the one in the foreground!
Is that all you got :-)
Actually walksoftly I held back two on this shot!!!
It pays to keep a couple in reserve, in case they are needed!
Nice to know I'm not the only one with a bad addiction. Thanks for the post pal.

T-Mon, you must have a very understanding woman. Has she suggested stamp collecting yet?

Put the hat on .... & take a bow.
Uh.... that's not a hat eye -- just something I pulled out of my basement drain..... don't know if I really want to wear it.... just letting it dry for now... not sure what it is\was.... screamed a lot though when I pulled it out...
BEAUTIFUL Collection-- would look great with some original era photos of trunks displayed with them (hint, hint)!

Nice collection trunkman and a very clean basement.
Like a gathering of old friends. Heartwarming!
Scottvez I appreciate the comment -- have no idea what you are hinting about..LOL! (mind gets a little muddled on a Sunday morning)
I collect and deal in antique photographs!

Get it -- east meets west on this one. Love seeing the old trunks which are new in the old photos....
I have to show that photo to my husband. He will be so pleased that I collect jewelry and porcelain and never complain that I use too much space -LOL
I Love your collection!
"Like a gathering of old friends" -- ohh I love that comment... thanks for all the great comments and yes I do have a stamp collection but there are too many to post LOL!!
Woaahh! Such many marvels you gathered! love specially the tapestry (?) humpbabk on the right of the stacked!
Can you tell us more about the one in the foreground, with what looks like nail head detail? I love that, it's my style!
Sure Jewels -- this one was directly imported from France and I believe it to be circa 1775 - 1825. The locks are both hand forged and if you look closely you will notice they are a different size. The leather had so tightened up over the years that it would not close so I had to cut the back of the leather :(. Brass tacks are in a tulip motif which would be typical of a Dutch monarch at the time -- Prince someone or something... but I do not really know what influenced the design. I was told by the importer of this family heirloom that trunks like this were placed in hotels as there were not closets to put clothes...
Merci paris1925 -- great museum -- thanks for the link... spent most of my time drooling over the trunks they have... :)
Thank you trunkman for that info--wow what a great piece, and could be more than 200 years old!
Hello Trunkman, can you tell me more about the trunk on the lower right in these pictures. I just picked up one recently that is very similar to it. It was covered in a black fabric, which I've since removed and am starting to restore the wood underneath. Thanks!
Sure Ninja -- a very nice barrel top trunk from around 1880-90's. This one has thin brass sheathing on the end slats which I had never seen before. There are better pics of this one on my site if you want a closer look for comparison. Post yours and I and others would love to comment on it!!!
T-Mon, get in touch with me via my email listed on my profile. May have something for you. Has to be quick as my visiting friend leaves Wed..
Useful if you move plenty of trunks to fill ,love to have them but would need a larger house.
What an amazing collection Trunkman!! That's a mighty large stack of history there!!
Wonderful! Now how about a few doll trunks to sit on top of the larger trunks... you can stack them to the ceiling! It's fun collecting trunks!
Thanks Marvin... working on the doll trunks... as you know a bit harder to come by... thanks for the fun comment!
Beautiful.......love your display.......
thank you so much rdhoush.... I so appreciate your visit and comment...
trunkman, I just came across this trunk site and am so excited and absolutely love your collection! My Journey started collecting trunks after my Gr Gr grandfather had passed away and the Gr cousins that were his caregivers had an Estate Sale and part of his Estate was the trunk he used to immigrate from the Netherlands to America. Several Antique Dealers were there to price us out of being able to get the trunk. I've been looking for that trunk for years, purchasing a few others along the way!
Thanks creillt69 for the compliment! Good luck in your quest to reunite with your history! Looking forward to seeing you post some of your collection!
I have 3 old trunks leather stitched on wood straps to go each side of the donkey or camel I think x military. Would you know anything about them.
wooòoòoooooowwwww
Thanks fleafinder for the awesome response... love the accents on the o's....
