This house was built in 1897 and I got it in a trade. I supervised the construction of a home for a friend that owned this old house and rather than him pay me my fee/percentage, he deeded his equity in this house along with the house over to me. I then remodeled it and the "carriage house" in the rear. (actually turned that little building into a "bungalow" & lived in it while the renovation of the "big house" was going on.)
I got my "15 minutes of fame" when the newspaper did a "front page story" on me and my business and the house which at the time (and still is) was the oldest house in Arlington (a section of Jacksonville Florida) This happened on "Fathers Day Sunday 1999" and you can read some of the article and see the "Fines Dept. Store" sign that use to hang over the front entry of my grandparents store in Homer Louisiana. I have the sign posted here at C.W. also.
This house originally had no plumbing or electricity when it was built and even had an old concrete "horse trough" off in the side yard. I completely gutted this "old house" to include wiring, plumbing, roof, custom made "batten doors" and even had a custom made "Dutch door" to my two infant boys room they shared. And of course all the rest, such as wall texturing, painting, tile counter tops in the kitchen & baths along with the refinishing of all of the old plank hardwood floors throughout. This was one very cool old house and one that I "personally" did all of the work from "top to bottom" and from "one end to the other". One of my best projects. At least the one I was most proud of.
