These are vintage and antique removable collars handed down in the family. Some are store bought and others are handmade. There is also a handmade collar holder that is embroidered. Many different styles and eras. I have old photos of women wearing some the collars. There are twenty collars.
My desire is to have them cleaned and mount them with the photos in about three or four frames. I would like any opinion on the best way to clean them and displaying possibilities.
Great collection! I have a case very similar to the one in the second pic, but someone stitched "Merry Christmas" on the back of mine--what is it's intended use?
Jewels, It is a holder for the collars.
Ahh thank you so much. I have had it for years andd I always thought it was some holder for money because it says Merry Christmas on the back =) Great, glad to know!
Jewels,
Funny. I didn't include this in the picture but there is a nice vintage store bought ribbon that was laid in the holder that reads Merry Christmas.
Ohh interesting! Removable collars must have been the "it" thing for Christmas gifts at the time =) Thanks for sharing!

handmade gifts are special. What I was told that the women in the 19th century probably only had two or three dresses. The collars were added basic black to make it look like a different dress. Clever I would say. vintage dickies.
So true Behr, I wish I had the talent to create such special things for people. These ladies were very clever with the vintage dickies :)
You can boil vintage fabrics to remove yellowing. Personally, I think the coloring adds charm and indicates age and I would leave it. Lovely family memento. Nice that you want to display them in such a unique way. :)
Thanks bettywirsen. I have cleaned doilies and pillow cases like that. I will post a picture of them when I get them done.
Thanks for the love Manikin
