Received this desk tonight as a free giveaway on Facebook. Cannot find any stamps or markings but was told it was definitely Stickley style. I am very very new to this hobby (collecting and refinishing). In fact, this is my first find. Can anyone help me?
How long does it usually take to get help or comments here?
Hi mbello, I know the company stickley will help id pieces. I don't know myself, but it is stickle style library desk. I am sure with some clean up, it would be nice =)
How should I clean it up?
I hope someone with more expertise chimes in, but what I would do is buy some wood cleaner, I buy the natural one by method, but any will do. After that you could go over it with a stain to fill it the chips and such. Depends how far you want to take it. It looks like it has a veneer?
Yes, I believe there is veneer. My dad said it had some. I'm very new to this whole thing. I wouldn't know a veneer if it walked up and talked to me. LOL
HAHA! Aww it's okay, you gotta start somewhere. Veneer means that there is a thin covering of wood over some other type of wood. It looks like it might have some mildew, but it should come off. You could try cleaning it and touching it up with stain where it's chipped and it should cover up to where only you really know
Restoreafinish works well, you can find it in most antique stores. You have to be careful with veneers, they can peel. Also, I don't think Stickley used veneers, they were mostly solid wood. Very nice piece, My wife's aunt has one. Enjoy!

I was wrong about the veneer. There is NO veneer on this piece. If I wanted to sell it as is, how could I determine a price for it?
