I can tell you they are fantastic! And if you don't want them I know of a great home for them lol :). Do the hats have any labels? As far as a year I would say early 40's but that's just a guess based on the pics. Don't toss them it looks like they are good condition and vintage hats have a wide collectors range. Hope that helps.

No tags, thought maybe they were cut off but cant find any evidence of prior stitching. The large one is felt and the small is velvet, they are in excellent condition put the vail parts are not, they are very delicate and have been torn. The black feather one has beads strung on what I thought was wire but after looking closely it's accually part of the feather. The larger black hat is trimmed in mink I think and I'ts shaped wavy like a fancy sea shell.

The one on the right is a "veil hat" or "whimsy." I have one almost identical to yours in my collection. The book "High Fashion Hats 1950-1980" by Rose Q. Jamieson & Joanne E. Deardorff has 5 full pages of whimsies, all different from ours. The book says they are from the 1960s. The light weight allowed women with poufy "teased" hairdos to wear hats without crushing their do.

I don't know about the one on the left but it's gorgeous.

I wonder if the one on the left is from the later 1800s? Picture it with a huge Victorian hooped dress. I hope you ended up keeping it, I would have screamed so loud with glee if that had been in my grandmas attic.
