This divided platter was designed by Pavel Panek and made at the Czech factory Rudolfova. He designed the essential shape but the factory had moulds made with different relief textures on the base. The top surface is smooth. These relief patterns also appeared on ranges of tableware.
This design is called Vine, in clear glass with added 'lustre' colouring. The platter was also made in green glass with a pattern called 'Juta' (jute),which looked like hessian. Finally I've also seen it in blue glass with a texture that looked like brickwork. There may well have been more.
It was made by ring-less press-moulding, hence the irregular rim. He also experimented with centrifugal casting.
Height 3.5 cm Diameter 29 cm
Thank you for the love aghcollect, you are quicker out of the blocks today than SEAN himself. :-)
I would not have picked this as Sklo. Thanks for furthering my education!
Racer, I totally agree. These two Panek items were never displayed with my Sklo Union stuff as they spoiled the cohesion. However I like them and I've long dreamed of owning a Panek animal....and you need three for a collection!
Oh yes! The ram or moose I think!
Lev (lion) for me, but any one would do!!
Hi Weirdpucket, 'sklo' is the Czech word for glass. However, when racer writes Sklo she is referring to Sklo Union, a group of pressed glass factories under one management.
Thanks to, mikelv, vetraio, Flowergirl, Fancigirl and SEAN for the loves.
Thanks CindB for the love.
