Nice pair of candlestick but I cannot identify them!!
2 hallmarks:
The one on the left looks like a Serpent in a circle and the other is an eagle with a crown--any help identifying origin would be wonderful!! Thanks
Hi Sophdemat,
ive got a book called old silver (English,American & foreign).
I had a quickish whip through and found a lot of the eagle marks like yours but not with the crown !! All except for one were German marks which I initially thought as the eagle has like a German cross in the centre , the other French , the only serpant I could find was also French but not in a circle ..
This book covers upto 1930s/40s so if your candle sticks are newer than that I wont find them.. try the web German hallmarks ..
they look 1900/30s to me :-)
Hi again Sophdemat,
Ive found your silver hallmark in the book-
INTERNATIONAL HALLMARKS ON SILVER COLLECTED BY TARDY-
The eagle with crown & cross in centre mark is late 18c italy .950 grade silver , which is very good as sterling is .925. the other mark I haven't found so could be a maker or town mark ..
after looking yesterday in a different book and making a comment I just had to find out for sure ..
you have a lovely pair of italian candlesticks from the late 18c & I love them :-)))
Wow ! This is a treasure!!! Very beautiful pieces you have!

Frankfurt hallmark 1750 les poincons de garantie internationaux pour l'arnt, a book that was a generous gift of a seller of antiques
thank you Surfdub66 for all your help!! They are beautiful and I had a feeling they were Italian, but was not sure--they are gorgeous and actually quite heavy for such a small pair.
Your welcome sophdemat :-)
Theyre possibly cast silver rather than loaded in the bases possibly worth quite a bit too !! Nice find !!
