This is an old hammer head , I think maybe from the railways??
Its 6" long weight around just under a kilo with a round 28mm shaft hole , im pretty sure its a cast iron head which has been well used..
it has writing on the pin side as in photos , one side numbers the other letters which I can make out "AL?P?K??"
Ive looked on the web and the closest thing to it is a railroad hammer but even thats totally different ..
I dug this one up out of the ground whilst putting up a fence , it was roughly 2ft deep resting on a layer of sand in Devon U.K at least 1 mile from any rail lines, I thought it was an intresting shape and very old and worn so kept it , now its listed on c/w im hoping someone can tell me what it was for and how oldish please ???
I have 1906, 1914 & 1937 RR supply books and the only thing I found in there with this shape is a Poll Pick. It is not fluted like yours but same shape. The odd thing is the round handle hole yours has.
They were made by C.A. & Co. and came in 3-1/2, 4, 4-1/2, 5, 6, 7 lbs sizes.
Thanks AzTom, I would have thought its gotta be that sort of oldish , I thought the round hole was a bit strange also the fluting..
its a strange one , ill have to clean it up a bit and try and see the lettering & numbers, it may help:-))
Many thanks AzTom ;-)
Thanks for the loves~
