This was a great man my grandfathers worcester fire department helmet. He never spoke about it and all i know is he knew a few who lost thier lives. He kept it for years and gave it to me before he passed. I would never sell it. But I live with roommates and who have friends over when I am working. I would like to know if it is valuable and I if need to keep it hidden or is it safe to keep as a wallhanger. My grandfather serving during the great worcester fire that killed all those heroes and would also like to know if it is possible he used it then. I would really like to know if the sticker on the back means that as well. He gave out a few others but this one is the best looking and is the only one with that sticker. If someone could tell me more about the helmet and especially the sticker that would be great.
Thanks
I do not know about th monetary value but the value to you and your family is PRICELESS !! Keep it close and remember his Bravery. Be very Proud !!!!
This looks like the vacuum form plastic mentioned above, and likely dates to the '60's.
These can sell in the 1-200 range, a bit more from a big dept like Worchester, but its priceless to you.!
Enjoy and keep it safe, your friends can't really hurt it as ther are very rugged, but you'd hate to lose it!
This is a Cairns model 880 thermoplastic helmet. Given that it has the impact cap inside of it, the helmet was most likely issued in the 1980s or 1990s. These impact caps only came to be as OSHA regulations came into place during the mid 1980s.
As to commercial value, my guess is no more than $150. But from a personal and family perspective it is priceless. A firefighter's helmet is our most personal and cherished item. Keep it and cherish it, as it probably personifies much about your grandfather.
