    This is also one of the many items which were in a keepsake box, which had belonged to my late father or his Uncle...my Great Uncle.

      You have an antique parallel ruler. People don't use them anymore. Nice item.

      FYI: People still use them, I just saw them yesterday in the drafting supplies isle at the office supple store. ;)

      I still use them for layout but very few people even know what they are or how to use them.

      I am waiting for Mercer to post a pantograph because I use the two together.

      These look like they maybe for ship board navigation, pre -gps. I have a set I still use occasionally drafting 3 dimensional plans.

      As my father was in the Navy during the war, I suppose he could have used it then. Although he was a Radio Man not a navigator. He did however have a boat and did chart course on maps.
