Help!
This hand-painted wood box is signed "Annelise Stiegeler" with a stamp under the bottom.
But I can't find anything on her when I google! The only google-hit on that name is for someone who attended a bookbinding class in Kassel in the 1960's I think. Probably not the same person, since this box is older.
Of course Annelise Stiegeler could have got married, and changed her aftername.
Does anyone recognize the signature, or the style of painting?
there is something with the painting that makes me Think about hungary
might be the kosack style.
I wonder if there is a term for this type of box construction?
I wonder if you have thought about that this could come from our homecountry Katzl? This type of box I think is called 'svepask' in swedish. To me it looks like stylized dalahorses that they are ridning on. The painting style looks quite modern 1950's 1960's? The box might be older. Haven't found anything on the hallmark yet.
aghcollect, retsirk, Radegrunder, vetraio50, Jewels, Hunter, valentino97, austrohungaro and Elisabethan - many thanks for the love!!!
retsirk - many thanks for your suggestion! Yes it could for sure be hungarian..
vetraio50 - I don't know what to call the type of box in english!
Elisabethan - many thanks for your suggestion!
However the box is definitely from the time around 1920-1930. Could be somewhat earlier or later, but not as late as the 1950's or 60's.
Looking at the style of painting I would say it's very likely to be austro- hungarian or german, or from somewhere around that area. Also the signature suggests that.
