The pictures are a bit blurry but I wouldn't bet money on it being an antique. The wood looks old as does the one nail head I can see. The gain on the hinges is way out of place and there are screws missing and not even a hole where one may have been. I sooner think this is a rebuild. If it were a document box wouldn't it have a lock? You didn't mention any dimensions. I would think this is old but not an antique just yet.

You have a nice piece here. From what I can see where the light shines across the top (pic #2) this looks hand planed. People buy items like this and sand them down smooth not knowing they are ruining it. Regardless of the age you have the components. Someone put forth an effort as best they could. A city slicker would buy this in a minute.

I think what you got there its wood cardex box from 1930,mostly use in financial institution,business and retail store from that era.
They use those wooden box as files system for address and telephone number
The measurement you give was two cards beside each other.
I have single one to post later this week from 1880-1900 in Oak,coming from the QuebecBank, missing the lid part.
