Recently, an example of this swan came up for auction, but sadly I didn't win it. Maybe a week later, a second one came up for auction on ebay -albeit in a smaller size. I decided I wasn't going to miss out again and made a strong bid, but lost out again . This week, while looking on one of my saved dealer websites, I found one I had completely forgotten about. I finally had my swan! She's a beauty, standing 9 1/2" tall and in pristine condition. The décor is opal with a Candia Papillon decoration.

Thanks to Deb for her help in identifying the décor.

Awesome addition! I had hoped to get the one at Jackson's, epsecially since it was listed with a few modern pieces.
      But....dream on I guess :).

BTW-I think this is more 20s-30s than turn of the century. Great piece either way though!

Thanks yesterdaysglass and aghcollect . I too thought that I had a good chance of getting it at Jacksons being that it was misidentified. Boy oh boy was I wrong! I was shocked to see the bidding go up into the stratosphere! I had no idea of the date, so I based it on the 1900 date I had seen others listed as. Thanks for the correction.

About a year ago Skinner Auction had a set of these.....a large one and four smaller ones. Of course they had no idea they were Loetz. I went to the preview and sadly they were all badly damaged so I did not bid. I was really Pis---.

Thanks for the loves Manikin, Jewels, LoetzBuddies and Michele. Yes LoetzBuddies, I saw the pic today while looking for info on the swan. I didn't realize they had been broken. What a shame!

The swan was produced by Loetz in 1905!! The PN is II-2066 and the decor listed for this size and two other sizes (II-2065 & 2067) includes mention of the "Papillon" decoration. Actually, most of the Loetz figural birds were early productions. Both the owl and the Stork shown on the site were produced in 1904.
