I found this beautiful vase at auction, with terrible pictures (always a bonus) but felt from what I could see of the enamel work that this was a quality piece. When it arrived it was covered in years of dust and grime, but it cleaned up beautifully, and I was so pleased to see what a beauty this vase really is. It stands 8" tall, and is in excellent condition, with no enamel loss to the flowers, bird or butterfly enameling. The quality of the enameling is just lovely, and the entire vase just shines. I feel it is most probably by Harrach due to the style and quality of the work; it seems to be the little sibling of Ozmarty's vase, posted here on CW. The birds could almost have been painted by the same artist (are they blue tits?)

Lisa, thank you! :) Harrach was known for the quality of their enameling, and I am just in love with some of their work. I knew the enamel was not cold-painted, and was fired on, so it was more durable. I held the vase under a very light stream of slightly warm running water, and gently wiped it with a soft sponge and a little bit of dish washing soap. It was amazing how quickly the glass cleaned up - I did my best to avoid the enamel work, and luckily it all cleaned up beautifully. For the inside, I used a bottle brush with a cotton tip - I have a set of all different sizes and they are so useful for getting muck out of the bottom of old vases.
