The 1920's Coca-Cola red barrels are pretty sweet. I added this 5 gallon size to go with my 10 gal a couple weeks back from an eBay bid auction for a little less than Martin's Guide value for an excellent example. Same seller that TGBWC snagged his fantastic Joan Crawford sign BIN (still smarting that he beat me to it).
Happy to add this old syrup container to my collection. Took me a long time to find one at a decent bid point. I think these have come down in sale price over the last year, so finally timing was right.
I have it on display over by the Vendo. Tilted slightly forward to good effect. I'll have a piece of plexiglass cut to fit over the label end for protection. In the meantime, I bought a pack of oversize plastic photo book picture holder inserts and cut one to size as temporary coverage.
Have to admit, I've never seen one & didn't know they made them. Learn something everyday (I try for 2 or more) & luv it.
Thanks blunderbuss2. Coca-Cola even named their internal fountain periodical "The Red Barrel" after this iconic container. Hope it's going good, Sir!
Nice one Dave, tough to get any deals past you and Ray!
Never knew there was 2 sizes of these either!
Daddy, I didn't notice that it was you who posted that! Great item! How am I? Waking up this morning I took as a good sign & waking up not French was even better! LOL! Everything going well with you? Being raised in the 40's-50's in the area I was, it's hard to believe I never knew these existed! That finally explains "The Red Barrel" flyer. Harry Rainwater was a frequent dinner guest & I may have seen some of those flyers but just too young to remember. Shame!
Daddy, I sent my meager collection of Coke bottles up over a yr. ago with a friend who lives in CO & don't think he has gotten around to selling them on Ebay yet. I sent a lot of stuff up with him. There is maybe 10 bottles & I think there is only 1 -1925 "hobble" there & 1 Hutch (B'ham Bottling Co. with no "Coke" marking) . There is a Greenville, SC that made them standardize bottles. I posted some so you can look on my profile. Never paid over $2 for any. My email address is on my profile & that friend is coming for a visit in 9-10 days. They would mean more to you!
Thank you Bernie, plenty of deals out there for everyone. Hope to see you posting one soon.
BB2 glad to hear you are fine and good. Me too. Hey, I'll look you up, sounds good. Thanks.
Super cool Dave. Great top label, I know those are hard to find in great shape.
Now, I was hoping you'd call me Doug! ;0) Thanks Chad!
