Hello, these are vintage hat stands. The taller 2 are a foot and a half and are painted. The other is velvet and tattered, but I still like it. These are kind of difficult for me to find. I assume these are 1930's or 1940's? Thanks for looking!
Thank you Phil! Yes, I do have a collection of hats! I love them! Hope you're having a nice weekend. :)
All I can say is, A tip of the hat to you for finding them.
Are the pedestals threaded so they screw into the base?
:) thanks fhr! On the taller stands, yes, they are threaded and screw into base, but not the velvet one
I thought they might be. I did copies of a good many of them when I still had my wood threading taps and dies. The way the painted ones look made me think of Francis Poole (the guy I copied). He did American folk art and was somewhat of a nut for painting things. I believe he originally did plant stands and then changed the shape of the top and they became hat stands. He also did figure carvings. He wasn't rich or well known and didn't even make his own pedestals. He frequented dumps and took home old wooden bed frames and simply turned trash into his treasure. Finding something with his signature still visible is almost impossible. Very difficult to even find his creations but they are out there.
Oh that is so interesting, I will look him up
Oh thanks eye! If you see them, get them, if you like them...I scour the flea market for them all the time and never see them...
