I found these beauties at a thrift store, they are 8" in height and the base is 3 inches wide. I am trying to find out everything I can about them. How old they are and their value. I only paid 4.00 for them. I do love them.
I think they are Bohemian. Are the tops also glass?
Yes the tops are glass.
I have a pair which i brought and this is what i was told.
An elegant set of large stemmed Crystal salt and pepper shakers made in Western Germany - In excellent condition free of chips, cracks or repairs.
These shakers with pinwheel design measure approximately 5 ½” tall and just under 2” wide across the bases – beautiful Western Germany Crystal shakers with glass tops.
A similar, but not quite identical pair are for sale in the USA for $82 AU. I think both the fact that the American set have "made in West Germany" on the original tag gives us a fair idea of their vintage. I have found nothing else like these available in Australia so they appear to be extremely rare. I also only found a 1 pair plus a single one in a world wide search
I had a pair very similar to those, but more delicate, that I rec'd as a wedding gift in the 60's. I have looked EVERYWHERE for another pair, but just cannot find them. I'd pay anything for them, but they're just not available.
Sandy, I don't know if you get notifications for this but I do have a pair I'd be happy to pass on.
Midas, thanks for the response. Are they fine crystal or heavier like leaded glass? If they are fine crystal can you send a photo and price please. (I'm not good at this lol)
Sorry. I meant to direct this to Mvidas
They are heavier; could be leaded glass as I'm not an expert. They look just like the original picture above. They appear to be Bohemian Crystal from my Google searches, it says "Made in Czechoslovakia" on the bottom on a sticker.
My parents got them I believe as a wedding gift in 68. I'm not looking to make any money from them, I'd be happy to give them to you if they're what you've been searching for. I'm in upstate New York; I could ship them to you as well for whatever the actual shipping costs are plus bubble wrap/etc.
