I found these in my usual little seasonal antique shop that I always go to in Cedar City. She always finds the best magazines & sells them at thrift shop prices. What's cool about these which say they are "A Catholic magazine for growing-ups" is that the illustrations on the other 3 magazines are by George Letness & the art director is Charles F. Brown. When I googled the names, I found that George Letness befriended a young Charles Schulz & Charles f. Brown was an instructor at the same school at the time Schultz was also an instructor. As to the comic on the back "Mugs", the illustrations look familiar, but I could find no information. It is simply signed "Sod." All I can imagine is that this was just some small magazine for Catholic teenagers. It was published in Minneapolis.
Hello. I thought it would be interesting to search for art by George
Letness and was sent to your website. My name is Cathy Letness-Krenzel and I am the daughter of George. What is stated in your post is true. George was a gifted artist and all though the 21st century has replaced the skills George and multiple other illustrators in his time created, it is most important that these works of art are preserved. Thank you!
How cool, I love it when relatives of the artist come in and post information on these threads! Thanks, Cathy!
Hi, cletness58! Do you have those 3 magazines as well? I'm so glad that you found them here. I love the story behind them as well!
