I have several son in the service items, mostly pins. I had never seen one as a ring before. This one as seen some use, as it is broken in the back, but it is Sterling and can be repaired. The marking inside (see 3rd pic) says O.B Sterling. I'm not sure what the OB means. It has cool design on the outside> all in all a nice piece, and I'm glad I found it!

This style ring was very popular during the WW1 era.

Thanks, Scott. I thought it looked older!

      Glad to help out.

The "son in service" design is found much more often in WW1 pieces. Also the overall ring design and thin band would point to WW1.

Considering it was made by Ostby & Barton, and it's age, do you think it would be worth cleaning and fixing?

This type usually bring less than $50, so I wouldn't think it would be cost effective to pay for any work on it.

It will display fine as is.

Thanks, scott. I only paid a buck for it. From a jewelry dealer no less! It has found a good home. I don't think I'll sell it.
