i dug up this stone (it feels and looks like stone) pendant/ object about 10 years ago. Coming from South Africa, I have no clue if this is a local tribal object or something that someone dropped on their journey. Both sides are the same, with the same image being portrayed: which looks to be a bird with its wings spread. I can't make out what the image is in total but I think that is because of my lack of imagination. It has so many holes which makes me think that some form of thread went through it. If anyone could help, it would put 10 years of wondering to rest.
Interesting and a nice piece. You have not mentioned the size and I am not sure how old this is either but...I have some of these, different designs than yours and they are used for pendants. Usually good luck, fortune etc... So I do believe yours is Jade, it looks like it from the pics. I also think you could be on the right track as far as it looks like a bird but it may be a butterfly...

I forgot to say look it up on google search as vintage jade chinese pendants, bi discs, pi discs...you will get the idea.
