    One of a pair of Ten inch Coastal Cannon Fort Glanville
    Adelaide South Australia Made by William George Armstrong.
    Newcastle England 1870s Shipped To Australia mounted in Fort
    1880 Weight of Gun Twenty Tons Barrel , Fourteen Tons Carriage.
    Full charge Black Powder 1oo pounds Range 6000 yards.
    The ten inch were Muzzle loading fired every two minutes.

      Ah, there is life after senility! Without digging my old books out, wasn't the Armstrong a shunt-wound rifling? (power just went away again, after every hurricane). Please reply before power goes again! LOL!!!

      Armstrong shunt Rifling was abandoned in may 1865 in favour of the new Woolwich rifling system 3- 9 broad shallow grooves wrought iron muzzle
      loading guns built up on Sir W G Armstrong principle improved upon by
      hooking the colis over one another and having solid ended steel barrels rifled
      for studded projectiles.

      You don't want to see one Ron. NOAA totally let us down on this one & the results were 5 dead, at least half off 88 boats destroyed & 8 of 10 aircraft destroyed. Following my satellite observations, I knew they were not warning us, at least 10 hrs in advance. I will never fully trust NOAA again!
