Ah, there is life after senility! Without digging my old books out, wasn't the Armstrong a shunt-wound rifling? (power just went away again, after every hurricane). Please reply before power goes again! LOL!!!
Armstrong shunt Rifling was abandoned in may 1865 in favour of the new Woolwich rifling system 3- 9 broad shallow grooves wrought iron muzzle
loading guns built up on Sir W G Armstrong principle improved upon by
hooking the colis over one another and having solid ended steel barrels rifled
for studded projectiles.
`Never seen i don't want to see a hurricane i have led a sheltered life
and never needed one [a shelter ]since 1941 to 1945
You don't want to see one Ron. NOAA totally let us down on this one & the results were 5 dead, at least half off 88 boats destroyed & 8 of 10 aircraft destroyed. Following my satellite observations, I knew they were not warning us, at least 10 hrs in advance. I will never fully trust NOAA again!
