We recentely added this awesome carbon Fiber P-51 Mustang to the collection of Lakeside Storage in Provo. We are getting it ready to paint with original colors and then mount it on a building along with our Petroliania collection. While it is not gas/oil itself, it goes with the collection because it is of the right era along with cheap gas, porcelain signs, and full service gas stations. This particular plane came from the collection of a recentely deceased highly decorated military vet. It was disassembled when we purchased it and we hauled it back to Utah to reassemble and put it on display. This is one of the great finds we have had in a long time! The Mustang was a long range fighter bomber that changed the war in Europe as it was about 100 mph faster than the German fighters and could go the full distance to accompany the B17 bombers. It was the first long range fighter that could really deal with the Messersmits. They were armed with 6 50 cal machine guns and were lethal to about everything around in WWII. We are proud to own one at Lakeside.
So, is this real or a carbon fiber repro?
It is the Carbon Fiber repro and we think was built in the 70s/80s. It had the Ranger engine, not the Rolls Royce Merlin. Still an Awesome addition to go with all the Gas/Oil collection.
