This past weekend I finally found a Drink Coca-Cola 'Strike Matches Here' I could afford. I do have an issue paying so much for such a small item, but for less than $280, I'm happy I have one for the collection.
The only thing I can think of to create the damage done is extreme heat. I did a simple warm water and elbow grease test, but the towel was still white. I'm cool with the way it is because there is true colours and verbiage intact.
Any thoughts on what may have caused the damage other than a chemical reaction from extreme heat would be welcome.
    Thanks for letting me share.

Looks to be at the very least poorly restored.

Thanks D_N. If that is the case, I'm not as happy, but it does match my Fountain Service sign when it comes to workmanship. Hey, did you notice the grommets were there? LoL.

It's really hard to tell from the photos exactly what's going on there. The "Drink" lettering looks redone. The surface on the left hand side of the sign appears rough, almost like it was ground down and repainted (not re-enameled). I think the black on the Coca-Cola logo is actually the subsurface. Trevor may have an idea, he had one restored recently if I remember correctly. I don't think it's been in a fire, I think it's resto work. That's my guess.

Thats a tough one. Theres probably not much enamel on the back but does the back show any change in the finish mimicking the front. Note, all the colors on the front seem to match almost exact, its the finish thats different.

Thanks for the help! The back is all the same with some pitting. The right side looks original but it's only a small percentage. The Coca-Cola logo looks perfect throughout except for the colour.
You are correct D_N when you say Trevor had one restored. I believe he paid less than $50 for the piece that had almost no paint left. Restoration was worth it for his, but mine may be best left as is.
Having a portion that is original works for me at this point. Will play lotto this weekend to see if I can get a good resto job on a portion.

These are very hard to come by. I would leave "as is" as well.

I agree D_N. Thanks again for your insight.
