I purchased this solid oak desk approx. 40 yrs ago from the landlord of a defunct pool hall. Knew the pool hall owner's son--after I acquired it, I asked the son-Don-what he knew about the desk--he said that his father bought it at auction in the 50s when the local train station was demolished(for some stupid reason). North Adams is at the West end of the famous Hoosac Tunnel(google it) which was started in 1851 and completed in 1875 at a cost of 21 million---anyway-this came out of the NA train station--as I know it. Measures-7 feet X 30 inches--X 49 inches tall-to top of border rail---the border is 3 inches tall & 2 wide(cap)--the surface is slanted and the 2 and one half inch drop starts at 8 1/2 inches and stops 21 inches later at a 'pencil drop' piece of molding. The 4 drawers along the top part are all 16 inches wide-3+deep and 23 long---one of them is a 'coin drawer'. One side column consists of 5- 14 1/2 drawers-5 inches deep and 23 long--the other column has a 24 inch 'roll top' section X 14 wide, and one bottom drawer also 14 1/2 wide X 5 inches deep. The top section W/4 drawers comes off-as it just sits on pegs/dowels--the middle panel is slotted into the columns and has a small mounting bracket --left & right.. only markings found underneath are the word STYLE and the # 757. That's it---has not been sanded nor re-stained--tho it could use a slight face lift. Does anyone out there no when /where these desks were made and by what company? Any information would be most helpful --thank you!
