Boston Public Library Bulletins, 1870's

I have these bulletins from the 1860's and 70's that are from the Boston Public Library. They are in fragile condition, and some are tied together with string, so I don't want to risk damaging them by opening them. Does anyone know their significance? What they were published for and how long? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated!
