My husband and I bought this Cuckoo Clock 17 years ago. It has some penciled markings inside the case. Not sure how to make out the dates. It has a 19g6 (refer to 3rd picture) and the word restaurat...that is the spelling.

Any information on this clock would make me very happy!

    Specs that I know are,
    30 hour movement
    No music
    Perfect working order

    Unsolved Mystery

      Restaurat is Romanian for "restored"

Or it could be Catalonian language - means same thing

Very nice clock, but pretty sure it once had a coil chime bar......note hammer is still there, as aghcollect have stated... Restore and date that was done is probably 1986, my guess as to pencil marking and bellows appear to lots newer than clock works itself. By design and general construction , myguess...and stricklythat, would be Black Forest German made

@ kerry10456, thank you for your input Kerry! We love all Cuckoo clocks and have acquired many over the years. This one stumps me. I have not found another "hunter" type like this. They usually have 2 rifles, a couple little fury creatures :0), and add a buck to the top. I would like to find out what era this comes from.....can't really pinpoint much. Hands design ...1867 ish, cast brass 30 hour lyre movement (older) no marks that I can see, nothing written (made in Germany) on face, case is solid wood and side doors are bent brass wire for closure.....stumped! Anymore wisdom would be much appreciated.

      RESTAURAT
      1996 Gino?
      VENTURA
So, restored by a spanish speaking person in Ventura (California?) 1996 perhaps.

last couple cuckoo clocks ive had the chime was screwed to the back door/cover,..is that the way this one is or is cover gone?,..awesome piece DROOOL!
    7. CooCooforCuckoos CooCooforCuckoos, 10 years ago
shawnicus, yes, the chime is indeed screwed as you say and well intact. Have you ever seen a hunter like this? Just a weird configuration. I haven't found another one that comes close, have you? Thank you.....I love this clock! It works perfectly.

OlofZ, I know huh? So weird! Not sure if it says Simi Ventura, which could make sense because Simi Valley is in Ventura County. I bought this clock in Tucson Az....17 years ago. It was my 1st Cuckoo Clock. I love and respect my German heritage, so it was a special purchase. Just had no idea it would turn into obsession. lol

You're right. Your clocks "game" is missing...lol... Beautiful carving. How many do you guys have?

No markings on the movement? What's the bird made of? Are the bellows paper???
    11. CooCooforCuckoos CooCooforCuckoos, 10 years ago
toolate2, bellows are paper. Bird is carved wood. Due to the restoration, I'm not sure if the bird was replaced or not.....Cant even be sure the bellows have been replaced. Just wish I had more info about who and when this clock was made.

This becomes more intriguing as I research. Doesn't really fit any "hunters" type mold. Usually two rifles that can be on top with buck or crossed behind pouch (my clock has only one) and two small "game" (lol) animals dead or alive (my clock has only oak leaves). I've seen many different hunter clock configurations, just not even close to mine.

hmm are there any marks along the roof line where something may have been clipped? my bird and leaves flourish along the roof is held on by just a spring type clamp thing on each side ,..so no screw holes ,.if i take it off it looks kind of like yours,..so it might just have gotten lost over its long life,..still its such an awesome piece it doesn't really mater,..
    13. shawnicus shawnicus, 10 years ago
it might have had one of those elaborate stag heads with the big dang antlers and they break REALY easily,..
    14. CooCooforCuckoos CooCooforCuckoos, 10 years ago
@shawnicus...nope! No signs of any clips or attachments. I looked with a flashlight underneath the roof line....nothing! :0(
