Here is a bottle embossed Dr. Pinkham's Emmenanagogue. This bottle dates from around 1850. The story is a box of about 50 unused ones were found in the cellar of an old store back in the 1970's. As far as I know of only one of these has ever been dug. Dr. Thomas M. Pinkham a graduate of Cincinnati Medical College and a noted Physician in Cincinnati is thought to have produced this elixir. This elixir was for treating women's reproductive disorders.
I had to look up Emmenagogue - it is a herbal remedy designed to stimulate blood flow to the pelvis and uterus. They are still used in naturopathy - sorry I just love new words and that's a good one!
Thanks for looking ya'll. Emmenagogue is one a kool word for meds. Also, Cholagogue .
