As both surfdubb and PatSea had requested, here are some recipes from the Waldorf-Astoria cocktail book. Some of these call for sugar, and granulated sugar can still be used, but a simple sugar might be easier and quicker. For authenticity's sake, though, maybe trying the granulated sugar would be preferable.
For my friend PatSea…..the Daiquiri recipe looks to be close to today's drink. And Bacardi is from PR, but Cuban rum can be substituted. Cuban rum was used from the WW2 years on as President Roosevelt wanted to promote trade with Latin America. Of course, access to any Cuban products in the USA ended in the 60s, and this persists today. But if someone is able to get to Canada, where this product can be obtained….. :)
