After the Japanese started making and exporting glass to the West, both China and what was then Taiwan saw an opportunity too.
China was exporting glass early in the 60s and some of it (like now) was well made.
In the 6os too Taiwan moved into Western style glass and invited a number of known world glassmakers from Italy, Czechoslovakia and Japan to help them on their way.

These vases are both from Taiwan, and although not fantastic pieces of glass they are an important part of glass history I think.

The finger vase is typically Taiwanese, a single colour glass, moulded base and pulled fingers. These came in a multitude of colours.
    Height 21cm (8in)

The second is a bit more complex with it's mix of white, light blue and dark blue. It has a hot finished base and fire polished rim, and despite a few bubbles it's nice!
Sticker has Made in Taiwan Republic of China on it.
    Height 16cm (6 in)

If I think Japanese glass history is murky I would hate to venture into Taiwanese glass!
Good to have as examples I think (and cheap).

I once owned a Taiwanese 'fairy lamp'.....pale blue matt frosted glass. That was well made too, the 'shade' sat perfectly on the base.....bought in France. Not relevant at all!

I'm still amazed at the quality of glass from Taiwan.
Interestingly I'm off to our big antique fair Sunday and my daughter said Dan you get mea bigger version of Karen's glass vases pls? So she lives it...how do I find it, ebay? I think isaw some recently but if ident know if she wanted more, and she has space issues too. But no, she was definite. So what's it called, are there and particular makers that have been identified? Do you know the approx ages etc? Sorry for the million questions but you've created a monster...I lose a case every two weeks of so..lat the moment she "borrowed" " my Mikasa fruit compote and vase in high cut crystal...looks gorgeous but it's a boomerang...lol...

Not irrelevant really Peggy because this post was really about the fact glass comes from Taiwan too, and like Japanese and Chinese glass it should be accepted and in many cases, admired.
Maybe we all have a bit of Euro glass snobbery!

Thanks Anne! A collecting monster created....I have one here too!!

I am not sure who made those pink vases but I know the same company made vanity sets in satin black and the pink. I have seen the vases called 1930, but I think they were more 60s-70s. I know the vanity sets were 70s.
I have seen the vases in a bigger size but like some things they lost something as the scale increased.
Happy shopping - glad you are getting out a bit more now!
