Just trying to find out exactly what this is- can't seem to find anything like it in doing my online research. It's pretty heavy and has a very nice wood interior. The bottom has a patent number and was made in Japan. Measures about 5 " X 5 X 4. This came from my grandmother's estate.
Gold ?? Guilded?? Bronze Or brass ???
Ive a japanese bronze which has sea dragons around it like the ones on your lid !! So I'd go with jap...
Are there any marks on the base or anywhere else ??
