Kilim from Anatolia

I have 2 Kilim's I believe from Anatolia, maybe 1900's not sure. I am wanting to know more about what it might have woven with, the symbols, what they would have been used for, why are there tiny deliberate slits in the weave? They are long and narrow 149 x32. It looks like they should have been sewn together, but I am not sure. I bought them from a woman who said her parents, art historians, bought them while traveling in the 50's. The colors are nice and the pattern interests me.
