This old hand tool is a mystery. From the welds and the bolt it appears to be handmade. But my thinking is that it was perhaps copied from an existing tool? The metal head is about 6.5" x 3.5" and overall length with the handle is 28". It is very old and appears to have been well used. There are not any markings or names on it. Any ideas?..Thank you in advance for your help..

Does the blade looking thing look like it was sharpened?

Yes.. It is very dull now but you can see where
It had been Sharpened at one time..w

OK. I think this is time to admit: I have no idea! In the back of my mind (scary place to go), I seem to remember something like this for cutting up close to walls etc. , but also very uncertain. Have I made myself clear? LOL. Maybe time to repeat:"I have no idea!".

I think it was made by an early inventor to cut down Bushes and Brambles and smaller thick infested unwanted upstart tree fields. Probably worked well for the person who invented it for practical use on his property. (A maybe)

Musik, I was thinking along the same lines. Seems like I've seen them for use on larger cuttings than grass. Just didn't quite know how to express that @ the time. One must remember that I only have 2 brain cells left & they have to alternate. Hey, "brownie" bike tour of St. Maarten/St. Martin this afternoon!

You can mark this one as solved imo, with "jacko66"'s answer. I have had one of these for a few years now, and it has "HAGLOF INC. marked on it. Also, mine has a leather cover, that is marked "Forestry Supply Company" on it. When i found mine, it was in new condition, at a yard sale, and i also did not know what it was for, but the price was right. PS. you can buy blades for it if you need too.
