My dad bought this dog for me at an auction, it was the only thing there that I wanted and the bidding went pretty high. He got it anyway but I was curious as to WHY the bidding went high because I'm not an antique dealer and don't know these things. I took to the Internet and found that it MAY be a Hubley but I can't find any markings. It measures 10.25 in. Tall and about 9.5 long. Weighs 8.2 pounds. I simply want to know what I have to see if I have bragging rights!
Hi juju, I found this article, hope yours prove authentic: http://www.ebay.com/gds/BEWARE-Antique-Cast-Iron-Boston-Terrier-Doorstop-LOOK-/10000000001665189/g.html
If it is in fact a Hubley, it would be marked as such. This much I know.
Sorry but you have a repo. I hope the auction did not state it as an antique.
As far as markings, I have never seen one of these marked. They could be marked on the inside but if you have an original you would mess up the paint getting it apart.
As a side note there are some repo cars made with the Hubley name on them.
Original Hubley the screw would be on the left side middle of the body on a two piece mold and on a three piece there would be two screws both on the left side, one center body and one in the neck. The marking would be inside on a rectangle that is flat. It there is a rectangle but no Hubley mark then it was probably made from a Hubley mold after the molds were sold. Only the molds were sold, not the Hubley brand so the name was ground off the molds. This isn't either but still a nice ornament.
