This is from a painting by Gilbert Stuart. It is printed on off white wove paper which is molded in high decorative relief outside the central image bearing oval. It is 13.5" tall and 11.75" wide with the oval about 8"x6". The paper sort of looks like greeting card paper. It probably dates around 1850.
I have researched this extensively and found "Catalog of the Engraved Portraits of George Washington by Charles Henry Hart" ,1904, to be a good reference. It is #686 on page 288 of the book for those who may access to the book. I have had a full professional conservation treatment performed on this, expensive but maybe this is the last one around.
This is undoubtedly the most unusual and rare of all the stuff I've owned over my 75 years. It's from a flea market in N.J. about 40 years ago.
