Went to an auction last weekend loaded with lots of great things, with a few pieces of Czech glass. There was little interest in this vase, in fact I was the only bidder. I was surprised the auctioneer didn't state it as Loetz since it is marked. I hesitate to call this Loetz since I know you should never go by the mark, so I would appreciate your thoughts on it. While the signature looks like one on a glass website, I don't think I can tell the difference between real and fake. Regardless, it is a beautiful little vase, 6-7 inches tall, no pontil, with an enameled dragonfly very delicately done.
You got me with the dragonfly...love it!...:-))))
Cool ;;-)))
Sweet......and Sweeter with the DragonFly!!
Signature is fake. But nice vase.
The real Loetz signature on a vase was made with an oscillating engraver. The signature, if real, would exhibit vertical striations in the engraving of the mark. The style of the tool and the marks it made when used are an integral part of an authentic "Loetz Austria" mark. The only acid stamped marks used by Loetz were post WWI and were either an oval or a rectangular mark with the country name.
There is really good information on the web page link below. Make sure and click on the link near the top for Page 2, as it shows post WWI acid marks also.

Thanks for the loves and information. As you all know, there is an abundance of "Loetz" glass out there, little if any is really Loetz. I wanted to check with you guys, and having an example of a signature even if not real provides useful information for comparison. Even if not Loetz it is a really nice little vase.
Lovely - a beauty, Dave.
