Unknown item. Handle slides. Marking of "Alaska" on one of the prongs. Found along a creek bed 45 years ago, never have been able to find out what it is. Any help would be grateful.

Looks like a fence tensioner. Newer ones have a spring in the middle and hooks on one end.

I'm going with an ice chipper with built in hammer.

Is the twisted part welded together or is it just rusted together? - Try this, move the slide part to the far end away from the twisted part, squeeze the handle together, the twisted part should "separate" and the two "flat" prongs should slide towards and over/under each other forming one "prong" - stuck into something and when you release the squeeze on the handle it will "grab" what you have stuck the prong ends into by tension.

The concept I'm driving at is it is a detachable handle used on a grill grate or cooking pot/pan - similar to what is used currently on a deep-fryer basket.

With the two twisted together there will be no movement.

AzTom is correct though the patent calls it an ice pick:

Thanks RobH. I admit it was just an educated guess. I had a tool with that type of slide hammer and the word Alaska on it led me to the ice chipper.

Does anyone else wonder why someone makes these posts and you never here from them again?
