This chair is supposed to have come from Scotland with my great grand parents. It has been handed down and is now mine to pass on. I would like to know a bit more about it as I can't find any style similar. It had a padded seat long since removed and ply installed with a cushion. I think my grand father varnished it a long time ago as well. The wood appears to be walnut and is fairly heavy in weight. It is not comfortable to sit in as it is short leged and the back hits all the wrong places

Thanks PhilDavid. I have a picture of the family gathered in late 1800's with Great Grand mother in that chair. She was a little woman and looks comfortable in it with a cushion on the padded seat. I think the picture was around 1889 judging by the age of my Grand Father at the time. I know that family hand downs take on a mystery as they get older and I wanted to find out what ever I could about that chair. Not sure about the American angle but have never found anything similar no matter where I have looked and the front leg is unique in the foot.
