It is a very cool shape, I wonder if it is a real butterfly species, or an artist's fantasy? What does the hallmark look like? Looks like "N.DS" to me?
    9. kiwipaul kiwipaul, 10 years ago
(Sorry, I meant what do those letters of the hallmark look like TO YOU?)

Kiwipaul, after cleaning the hall mark with a wooden tooth pick, and upon close magnified examination, I found :

      a closed crown for Sheffield,

a "gothic" letter as the 1787 (!!!) on this page:
      http://www.925-1000.com/dlc_sheffield.html

      and a lion passant.

So , still a mystery for me as I place it around 1900/1910!

Forgot to say: on the pic of the back, this hallmark is close to the C part of the system, other mark near the needle is "sterling"

      Beautiful color, turned out nice.

The Sheffield hallmark is unusual for nouveau silver enamel pieces and may provide the clue. Maybe Charles Horner? I believe he occasionally had his pieces hallmarked in Sheffield or Birmingham rather than his usual assay office at Chester.

Thank you for your answer, kiwipaul. What puzzle me is the letter between the crown and the lion... nothing like it in the time area for Sheffield!
