Ive had this bottle for about 15 years and its been in the family for at least 50 years. It is about 12" wide and 16" tall. It appears to have been made in two parts. Can anyone tell me anything about it as Ive searched the internet but can find nothing similar.
Hi, I don't know, but I remembered this post, read the first comment by Vermont where he gives a good resource, hope this helps: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/137308-old-bottles-tall
It's a carboy, used for transporting and storing liquids in quantity. They were normally covered in woven wicker for protection. Carboys were used from the late 1700s through the late 1800s. Yours is blown in a 2-piece mold with a pontil mark on the base and a sloping collar mouth. It likely dates from 1840-1860.
