Had fun a few weeks ago in New Hampshire and came back with 11 trunks in the truck. Wondering if anyone can give me better dates of the Large Goyard Trunk - first photo. Front hinges say Goyard Aine, and so does the front lock plate. but in my research can't find this brown canvas, all Goyards seem to have the patterned canvas. Second photo is nice old 1849 Leather covered trunk, third photo of a wall trunk with a Bevel top, and last one has the Oak Slat Trunk - Love Trunks.

Wonderful trunk finds Love them all especially the wood slat), I have seen Goyard in brown canvas before as well as green solid color
,only they were on large dome top trunks . It might pay to call or write Goyard to possibly find out when it was made.Like Vuitton they numbered their trunks. I wonder if the tag is still present if so look for the number it may be faint as many times they were written in pencil. La Malle encoin.com maybe another resource to
help in identification of the Goyard. Another note: Higher end Goyards have embossed leather edges with all brass nails, they will also have interior diamond pattern lacing and brass stud pleating on the lid,as well as fancy interior trays with brass buckles. The Medium to lower end Goyards trunks will have metal edges/corners with steel nails . A good rule of thumb is the More leather and brass
hardware (Bells and whistles) the better the trunk.

Thanks Drill for all this great info. The inside label was stripped and there are small remnants where I can read Aine and Goyard, but the bulk of label is gone - bummer. This one is all metal edges and lock is only thing that is brass - it has another stamp on it and for the life of me, even with my loop can't read it. Will have to keep digging. Have a great day. k

Most Goyard locks read: E. GOYARD AINE
      Paris
      233 Rue St Honore
      DePose
or Surete Depose. The nails in the Poplar slats are brass and will shine up well with lots of love .( but some chose not to clean them as they like the aged patina look, I chose to shine as Goyard and Vuitton intended, it also was the only way to read what was stamped). Check the bottom(Some are Zinc) for the painted stamp with Goyards name. Most will have it but not all it will read the same as the lock . Some side handles were leather with no mark /some steel(these will just say Goyard at most. The side handles if brass would read the same as the Lock so look close and good luck with it. Incidentally not all have bottom wheels. Most trunks were made in Paris France but there were some made in Morocco I'm told.

Correction ;not Morrocco : All Goyard trunks were made in Paris,You will find on some labels the inscription
      Monte Carlo, Monaco

Given the colour of the canvas and the shape of the lock I would think this Goyard to be of around 1895. Had there been a label inside that would have made the date-tracing a bit easier. There aren't many Goyard trunks of the pre-1900 era still around, so it's one to keep.

Hello- looking for some guidance, please. Purchased an early 20th century Goyard steamer trunk at a New England thrift shop last weekend and looking to replace a missing top portion of the front brass lock, as well as one broken brass corner plate. Does anyone have a recommendation for sources of Goyard replacement hardware, beside eBay or Craigslist? Thanks very much.

Hello Rob17 - I would check in with Bretten's Village Trunk Shop or This Old Trunk - they might have parts for sale or at least steer you in the right direction. When you say early, does your trunk have the patterned canvas or it is brown or green, curious as to what it looks like. Best, Kaye

Thanks very much, Kaye; I'll look for those online. My trunk has the patterned "canvas," wood reinforcement slats all around, with brass handles and brass for all other hardware. Not sure how to post a photo of it here- I can't find any upload button, and copying/pasting doesn't seem to work. Rob
